Job Description
About the Role:
Southwood Realty Company is seeking a licensed attorney to become a part of our team and work under the General Counsel. The attorney will assist this multi-family apartment and real estate firm in providing daily legal guidance to staff, analyzing/drafting contracts, working with lenders, etc. This position will work full-time on site at our Corporate Office in Gastonia, NC.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and draft contracts on behalf of Southwood Realty Company and its affiliates/subsidiaries
- Provide legal advice on business and legal transactions
- Negotiate settlements for legal disputes
- Report and manage insurance claims
- Provide legal advice on how to best comply with all legal standards and regulations
- Provide daily legal guidance to property staff
- Perform administrative and management functions
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree and Juris Doctor Degree are required
- License to practice law in at least one state is required (NC, SC, GA, TN, or VA is preferred)
- Previous experience in the practice of law is preferred
- Experience with landlord/tenant law and issues is preferred
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to build rapport with staff
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
